  154. 1.  When a macro virus is detected in conjuction with 
  155.     other viruses, the macro virus remover will not
  156.     work. If this occurs, remove the other virus first
  157.     or work in a separate area.
  158.  
  159. 2.  The VShield DOS TSR (on-access scanning) invoked
  160.     during a WIN-OS/2 session will not display the
  161.     prompting notification screen due to a WIN-OS/2
  162.     display incompatibility.
  163.  
  164. 3.  This release of VirusScan for OS/2, Version 2.5.2,
  165.     includes VShield DOS TSR Version 2.5.1.

  168. INSTALLATION
  169.  
  170. * INSTALLING THE PRODUCT *
  171.  
  172. Take one of the following two main steps depending on
  173. which version of VirusScan for OS/2 you want to
  174. install:
  175.  
  176. 1.  For the installable version of VirusScan for OS/2,
  177.     take these steps:
  178.  
  179.     a.  Execute the INSTALL.CMD program.
  180.     b.  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  181.  
  182.     By default, McAfee's installation program makes
  183.     a directory on the hard disk drive named
  184.     C:\MCAFEE\OS2SCAN and copies the program files
  185.     to that directory.
  186.  
  187.     The installation script also adds the directory
  188.     to the path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  189.     and adds one line to that file that calls the
  190.     VShield program to provide on-access virus
  191.     protection. For the most complete virus protection,
  192.     McAfee recommends using the /ANYACCESS switch.
  193.  
  194.     or

  196. 2.  For the non-installable version of VirusScan for
  197.     OS/2, take these installation steps:
  198.  
  199.     a.  Make a directory on your hard disk drive.
  200.     b.  Copy the files to that directory.
  201.     c.  Add that directory to the path statement in
  202.         your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  221. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *
  222.  
  223. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined effort 
  224. by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to come up 
  225. with one standard by which customers can verify their 
  226. anti-virus installations.
  227.  
  228. To test your installation, copy the following line into its
  229. own file and name it EICAR.COM.
  230.  
  231. X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
  232.  
  233. When done, you will have a 69- or 70-byte file.
  234.  
  235. When VirusScan is applied to this file, SCAN will report 
  236. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.
  237.  
  238. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS. However,
  239. users often have the need to test that their installations 
  240. function correctly. The anti-virus industry, through the 
  241. European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research, has 
  242. adopted this standard to facilitate this need.
  243.  
  244. Please delete the file when installation testing is 
  245. completed so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily 
  246. alarmed.
  247.  
  248.  
  249. * UNINSTALLING THE PRODUCT * 
  250.  
  251. 1.  Execute VSHIELD/REMOVE to remove VShield from
  252.     memory, then remove the files from your hard disk
  253.     drive and remove any lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  254.     file that call VShield. If an error message is
  255.     displayed indicating that VShield cannot be removed
  256.     from memory, take the next step.
  257.         
  258. 2.  Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove the line that 
  259.     calls VShield, then reboot your system. On restarting
  260.     your system, VShield will not be loaded into memory
  261.     and you can remove the files from your hard disk drive.
  262.  
  263.     Note: If the files are removed from your hard disk
  264.     drive prior to removing VShield from memory, an
  265.     error message will be displayed until you remove
  266.     VShield from memory or restart your system.

  305. Q:  Does VirusScan for OS/2 detect Word Macro viruses?
  306.  
  307. A:  Yes, it detects Macro viruses with the same
  308.     accuracy as McAfee's other anti-virus software.

  311. Q.  Is there a VShield program that works in OS/2?
  312.  
  313. A:  There is no constant TSR-type protection available
  314.     in OS/2. Included in the package is the
  315.     DOS/Windows version of VShield, but it is only
  316.     active while the system is running a DOS or Windows
  317.     session.
  318.  
  319.  
  320. Q:  Is there a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for 
  321.     VirusScan for OS/2?
  322.  
  323. A:  No. There is no GUI. OS/2 is a command line
  324.     controlled product only.
  325.  
  326. Q:  Can I update VirusScan's data files to detect
  327.     new viruses?
  328.  
  329. A:  Yes. If you have Internet access, you can download
  330.     updated McAfee data files from the McAfee Web 
  331.     Site, BBS, or other online resources. To download 
  332.     from the McAfee Web Site, follow these steps:
  333.  
  334.     1.  Go to the McAfee Web Site (http://www.mcafee.com
  335.         or http://205.227.129.97).
  336.  
  337.     2.  Click on the Download McAfee button in the upper
  338.         left hand column or frame.
  339.  
  340.     3.  Click Get that DAT! to update DAT files. 
  341.  
  342.     4.  View the information provided on new DAT files
  343.         and downloading.
  344.  
  345.     5.  Click on Download this Month's DAT.
  346.    
  347.     6.  Data file updates are stored in a compressed form 
  348.         to reduce transmission time. Unzip the files into
  349.         a temporary directory, then copy the files to the
  350.         appropriate directory, replacing your old files.

  352.     7.  Before performing any scans, shut down your
  353.         computer, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
  354.
